Even as Grover V became of age to rule the Empire, he was prevented from ascending to the throne by the nobility who wanted crave out a larger powerbase for themselves,ĭisaster came in 978 when thousands of angry commoners marched on and assaulted Imperial Palace in Griffinheim. However these nobles were more interested in personal gain so corruption, decadence and mismanagement reigned in the Empire, bureaucracy decayed and local Kingdoms feuded more and more openly. At the time Grover V was only 10 so a Regency Council of nobles ruled in his place until he became of age. In 964, Grover V would ascend to the throne after his father Grover IV unexpectedly died of a stroke. The Griffonian Empire would rule for nearly 300 years, however in the year 970 the Idol of Boros was stolen and this lost of such an important artifact was usually seen as the start of the Empire’s decline. Note however this is not a true representation as the Empire didn’t control all of their territory directly and some of the territory, especially those furthest away from the capital in Griffinheim had considerable amounts of autonomy
